Take Your Family to Space at the Great George Observartory
on May 4, 2010 | Tagged in: community
Take your family to see the Milky Way, the Moon, and millions of stars and solar systems in a clarity unavailable elsewhere in East Texas—and it’s all just a short drive from River Park West, south on State Highway 59. Spend the entire day at the Brazos Bend State Park, home to The George Observatory.
There are astronomy classes for children and adults, daytime activities, and on Fridays and Saturdays an evening telescope viewing is offered through telescopes ranging from 14 to 36 inches! The stars and planets will never look closer. Schools and groups can also plan field trips to The George Observatory, including overnight stays that focus on the night sky and the surrounding area of The Brazos Bend State Park.
And, you can even hold your child’s next birthday party at The Challenger Center at The George Observatory, where they have tours of NASA’s famous Mission Control and science activities for the budding astronaut. For details visit Hmns.org.
Ticket prices and directions are available online at Hmns.org, and there is also a $5.00 per person park activity fee to enter the Brazos Bend State Park to get to The George Observatory. What a great family resource for indoor and outdoor fun all summer long!
