For its annual Pop Corn Throwing Epic, Cast Theater in Rosenberg presents the hilariously funny play “Dirty Deeds at the Depot” on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. through August 6, with only one matinee left at 2:30 p.m. on August 6.  This local theater is community-supported, and this play has the highest audience participation - not only can you throw the popcorn, adventurous theater-goers can actually volunteer to join the cast during the play.  It’s a night of hilarity and fun, and is just around the corner from River Park West in nearby Rosenberg!

Cast Theatre is located in the Vogelsang Antique Emporium, 1909 Ave G, approximately 20 minutes from Hwy 59 & Hwy 6.  Admission is $13 per person. The great City of Rosenberg is hosting FREE live music on Friday evenings this July, and all local River Park West residents need to bring along are family, friends, and lawn chairs!  The evening concerts all begin at 7:00 pm, rain or shine, and are held at Bill Butler's Third Street Park located at 809 3rd Street - between Avenues F & G in the City's Historic Downtown District.  Area shopping and dining will also be open to welcome visitors late in the evenings after the concerts.  It’s free, it’s great music, and it’s just a few minutes south on US 59!

Friday’s concert schedule is as follows:

July 16th, at 7pm:  “The Coastliners” – Hear the music of the only Baytown band to chart six top-ten hits in the 60’s!


It will be a hunter’s, fisher’s, and camper’s paradise for two days, July 17 and 18 at Katy’s Merrell Center. For entertainment, there will be taxidermy presentations and Guinness World Record Archery and fly casting exhibitions, and Vendors and presentations will be available on Deer Stands & Blinds, Deer Feeders, Deer Leases, knives, tackle and rods, ATVs, gun and home safes, camping ear, scents and lures, and lots more. Sponsors range from Texas Safari Club, The Greensheet, to Don McGill Toyota, to Texas Farm and Ranch.  It will be a great day for the outdoor enthusiasts of Texas!

The Boy Scouts of America benefit $1 from every ticket sold and the expo hours are Saturday, July 18, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 19, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for military. Sugar Land’s Oyster Creek Park will be host this year to the well-known, and very popular, 25th Annual “Red, White, and Bluefest”. This year’s celebration is slated to include great music, rock walls, bounce houses, clowns, jugglers, and wraps with a great fifteen minute fireworks show!  The festival begins at 5 p.m. and runs to 10 p.m., and convenient shuttle services to the park from Mercer Stadium will begin at 4:30 p.m.  

Musical entertainment includes the nine-piece, high-energy band “Fried Ice Cream” and cultural performances will be provided by Fort Bend Chinese American Association and Hybrid Rhythms, a Bollywood-style dance group.

On our great nation’s birthday, July 4, 2010, at 5 p.m. the Stafford Centre will be hosting a free family concert by the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra - “Freedom Rings 2010”.   The concert is sponsored by the City of Stafford and the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with Impact a Hero, a non-profit veteran’s support organization.

Impact a Hero is a vital organization with a simple mission, to emotionally and financially assist our wounded and disabled veterans.  This assistance encompasses everything from counseling to refitting homes and cars for wheelchairs, and is a great program to both honor and help our veterans.

The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1992, and is a full-size orchestra, complete with brass, woodwind, percussion, and string.  It is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, and consists of over 60 musicians, mostly from the Fort Bend area. On Saturday, June 5, from 4pm-8pm the Texana Center in Rosenberg will host the Texana Trumps Autism Crawfish Boil, held at the Texana Center and sponsored by local dealership Legacy Ford Lincoln Mercury.  

Autism is better known as a childhood disease than ever, with a diagnosis of autism occurring in 1 out of every 100 children, and 1 out of every 58 boys.  Autism manifests itself in various ways and to differing degrees in these children, often changing as the child gets older.  It’s a great charity to aid the Autistic children of Fort Bend and its surrounding areas, so come enjoy some great crawfish for a good cause!


River Park West and Fort Bend County have a very strong sense of family and community for all ages, exemplified this month by the 3rd Annual Mad Hatter Spring Luncheon & Fashion Show presented by Prime Living Magazine, Friday, May 14, to benefit the Fort Bend “Meals on Wheels” charity. The show and luncheon are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Red Oak Ballroom, 800 W. Sam Houston North, Houston, 77024, with fashions from JoAnn’s, Jos. A Banks and Pinkie & Black and hair & make-up provided by Salon Eben & Day Spa. Prime Living Magazine is the premier luxury magazine in the Houston area since 2008, catering to readers and advertisers seeking to define “living well”. Their sponsorship of this event is a strong testimony to their dedication to the Houston and Fort Bend communities.

Houston’s local celebrities and community leaders Linda Lorelle and Roseann Rogers are both highlights of the event, with Linda giving the keynote address and Roseann emceeing the fashion show. Proceeds from the exciting show and luncheon will ensure meals to the older citizens of Fort Bend, where “Meals on Wheels” from Fort Bend Seniors serves folks whose average age is 78. And more importantly, ensuring many of these seniors the only regular social interaction they have access to.


River Park West residents are invited to bring their families for a fun filled day at the City’s annual EGGcellent Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt is to be held on Saturday, April 4, just minutes from their neighborhood at the Seabourne Creek Park.

The “Bring Your Own Basket” Easter egg hunt for kids ages 4 to 12 will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the arrival of the Easter Bunny. Participants will be divided into three groups: ages 4 and under; 5-8 years of age; and ages 9-12. Best of all, there is no charge for the kids to participate.

The Easter Bunny will be available for photos throughout the morning’s festivities and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to catch the memorable moments sure to be had by all. Light snacks and refreshments will be served at the R. W. Lindsey Gazebo immediately following the EGGcellent hunts.


Conveniently located within sight of Highway 59, minutes from River Park West and Cypress Creek Lakes, the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land offers fascinating science exhibitions sure to appeal to all ages. Opened in October 2009, the museum offers a world of discovery, science and adventure.

Wander through the magical world of Narnia and embark on a journey of scientific inquiry at the visiting exhibit, Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition or experience the thrill of paleontology first-hand in the Dig Pit. Cast fossils await discovery there, and budding scientists will be delighted to dig for dinosaurs under the watchful gaze of a prehistoric Archelon, the largest sea turtle ever discovered.


West Houston "MUTT"ster Dog Walk: April 17

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch will be hosting the 5th Annual West"MUTT"ster Dog Walk to benefit Special Pals on Saturday, April 17th. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the actual walk will take place at 10 a.m.

This particular event will benefit homeless animals at the shelter in need of medical attention. River Park West residents and dog-owners should attend with the whole family, as in addition to supporting a great cause, there will be several carnival-like games for children, vendors with pet supplies, a doggie costume contest, and even a doggie biscuit-eating competition for your dogs!
