You have probably enjoyed the beautiful sunny days outside. But are you ready to wear your summer clothes? Is your body in shape to (gasp!) sport a bathing suit to the pool or beach?

If you're ready to shed a few pounds from winter, or simply want to improve your level of fitness, the City of Sugar Land has the perfect program for you!


Two recent advancement at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital will go a long way toward providing Sugar Land residents the finest in medical care.

Uttam Tripathy, M.D., a cardiothoracic surgeon with Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, recently performed the first ever robotic chest procedure in Fort Bend County to remove a mediastinal mass (or chest tumor) from a patient.

This medical advancement means patients who previously would have faced open-chest surgery to combat tumors around the lung, sternum, heart, and spinal chord areas can now be candidates for this minimally-invasive alternative.


All eyes will be toward the skies when Sugar Land hosts its third annual Cultural Kite Festival on Saturday, March 3, at Sugar Land Memorial Park from 10 AM to 3 PM.

This will be a fun opportunity for all Sugar Land residents to enjoy the simple pleasure of going out and flying a kite, as well as teaching their children how it is done. Don’t know how to fly one yourself? There will be professional kite experts on hand to give demonstrations and lessons.


The Sugar Land and Fort Bend communities are among the most safe and pleasant places to live in Texas. Yet as with anywhere, unfortunate events can strike at any time. Are you interested in being among those who volunteer to help your neighbors during an emergency?

The Fort Bend County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), the civilian organization tasked with responding during public health crises, is holding an orientation meeting for potential volunteers on Wednesday, January 18, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the First Colony Library in Sugar Land.


The Literacy Council of Fort Bend presents Bike the Bend for Literacy, Sunday, November 20, beginning at Foster High School in Richmond at 8 AM.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fort Bend County while getting some great exercising and helping a worthy cause.


A Healthy Monday campaign is being launched by ShapeUp Sugar Land starting this April.

The restaurants participating in the campaign will offer “good, better and best” choices on all of their menus each Monday throughout the year.

Mondays have been proclaimed Healthy Mondays by Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson through a formal proclamation.  Each participating restaurant has a display of the official proclamation.
