Central Fort Bend Chamber Hosts Awards Banquet

The Central Fort Bend Chamber Alliance presents its 2011 Annual Awards Banquet Luncheon on Friday, January 13, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the Magnolia Room at Safari Texas Ranch.

Join the Chamber as they express their appreciation to members who have provided the highest levels of participation and support during the past year.


Child Advocates of Fort Bend present the 20th Annual CASA Christmas Home Tour on Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10, at locations across the Sugarland and Fort Bend areas.

This tour will showcase some of the area’s most beautiful homes and neighborhoods lavishly decorated for the holidays. More than 2,000 residents are expected to take this year’s tours.


Bring your family and join the entire community at the 9th Annual Miracle on Morton Street holiday celebration on Saturday, December 3, in Downtown Historic Richmond from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Enjoy a narrated mule-driven wagon tour rides giving tours which highlight the history of Richmond. They will also be dropping off and picking up passengers to the magnificent Moore Home Candlelight Tour, hosted by the Fort Bend Museum.


The Literacy Council of Fort Bend presents Bike the Bend for Literacy, Sunday, November 20, beginning at Foster High School in Richmond at 8 AM.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fort Bend County while getting some great exercising and helping a worthy cause.


The grand-opening ceremony of Fort Bend County Libraries’ University Branch Library will take place on Thursday, November 10, beginning at 6:00 pm, at the new library, located at 14010 University Blvd. in Sugar Land. The library is a joint project between Fort Bend County, the University of Houston System at Sugar Land, and Wharton County Junior College.

The grand opening will be officiated by Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert, who will be joined by other county, university, and local officials. All area residents are invited to come out and take part in the grand-opening reception.

The University Branch is the second joint-use facility in the Fort Bend County library system. Designed by Bailey Architects of Houston, the 2-story building is 40,193 square feet in size. E.E. Reed Construction, L.P. of Sugar Land is the general contractor.

The library is part of a $130-million bond referendum approved by voters in May 2006, which included $24.5 million for three county library projects: the University Branch Library in partnership with the University of Houston campus in Sugar Land and Wharton County Junior College; the Sienna Branch Library in partnership with Houston Community College; and renovations at George Memorial Library in Richmond.

Library staff will present two programs in October to help the beginning family-history researcher start their genealogy search.

LEARN ABOUT KNITTING AT GEORGE MEMORIAL LIBRARY
 

The Needles & Yarn Knitting Circle will meet at Fort Bend County Libraries’ George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond Tuesday, October 11, beginning at 10:00 am, in Room 2B of the library.


The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month. Knitters of all ages and experience levels – from beginners to advanced -- are invited to join. Those attending should bring their own knitting needles and yarn. Knitters may also participate in a special group project – making a lap blanket for patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.


Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Fort Bend and Galveston County, along with the American Sewing Guild - Houston Chapter, will host a deliciously informative "Fashions from the Cotton Patch" Fashion Expo & Luncheon on Saturday, August 27. The event will feature cotton garments, accessories, home décor and story boards from exhibitors from many of the surrounding counties.

Doors to this exciting event held at Rosenberg’s Bud O'Shieles Community Center, located at 1330 Band Road, Rosenberg, Texas 77471, will open at 11:00 am for visitors – tickets to the luncheon tickets are only $15!

Is your yard already renowned in River Park West for its beauty, but you want to take it to the next level? Or have you always wanted to learn how to put your green thumb to use and improve the aesthetics of your community? If so, then sign up to become a Fort Bend Master Gardener!

The Fort Bend Master Gardeners (FBMGs) organization certifies Master Gardeners through a one-morning-a-week horticultural training course held over an 11 week period. During that time you will attend talks and training led by experts in Texas horticulture, and you will then complete volunteer gardening work and experience in your community. During that time, your own yard will become the beautiful River Park West landmark that you’ve always wanted it to be.
