The Sugar Land and Fort Bend communities are among the most safe and pleasant places to live in Texas. Yet as with anywhere, unfortunate events can strike at any time. Are you interested in being among those who volunteer to help your neighbors during an emergency?
The Fort Bend County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), the civilian organization tasked with responding during public health crises, is holding an orientation meeting for potential volunteers on Wednesday, January 18, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the First Colony Library in Sugar Land.
The MRC is seeking volunteers of all backgrounds and professions, not just medical.
The Fort Bend County MRC was formed in May, 2007 to supplement the existing public health infrastructure in the county. Volunteers will work with the County Health Department to staff public health facilities during natural disasters and emergencies. They also provide outreach to members of the community without access to public health services.
The orientation will discuss the basics of the Strategic National Stockpile program, the roles of MRC team members, and if volunteering would be right for you.
First Colony Library is located at 2121 Austin Parkway.
If you are interested in signing up for this orientation or want more information on volunteering please contact Christine Rabe at (832) 385-9632, or by email at christinem@homelandpreparedness.org.
