It’s a Funny, Campy Melodrama at Cast Theatre in Rosenberg

For its annual Pop Corn Throwing Epic, Cast Theater in Rosenberg presents the hilariously funny play “Dirty Deeds at the Depot” on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. through August 6, with only one matinee left at 2:30 p.m. on August 6. This local theater is community-supported, and this play has the highest audience participation - not only can you throw the popcorn, adventurous theater-goers can actually volunteer to join the cast during the play. It’s a night of hilarity and fun, and is just around the corner from River Park West in nearby Rosenberg!

It’s a Hot Musical July at Rosenberg’s HOT Summer Concert Series

The great City of Rosenberg is hosting FREE live music on Friday evenings this July, and all local River Park West residents need to bring along are family, friends, and lawn chairs! The evening concerts all begin at 7:00 pm, rain or shine, and are held at Bill Butler's Third Street Park located at 809 3rd Street - between Avenues F & G in the City's Historic Downtown District. Area shopping and dining will also be open to welcome visitors late in the evenings after the concerts. It’s free, it’s great music, and it’s just a few minutes south on US 59!

It will be a hunter’s, fisher’s, and camper’s paradise for two days, July 17 and 18 at Katy’s Merrell Center. Sugar Land Hosts the 25th Annual “Red, White, and Bluefest” on July 4th, 2010

Sugar Land’s Oyster Creek Park will be host this year to the well-known, and very popular, 25th Annual “Red, White, and Bluefest”. This year’s celebration is slated to include great music, rock walls, bounce houses, clowns, jugglers, and wraps with a great fifteen minute fireworks show! The festival begins at 5 p.m. and runs to 10 p.m., and convenient shuttle services to the park from Mercer Stadium will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Musical entertainment includes the nine-piece, high-energy band “Fried Ice Cream” and cultural performances will be provided by Fort Bend Chinese American Association and Hybrid Rhythms, a Bollywood-style dance group.

Free July 4th Family Holiday Concert at the Stafford Centre

On our great nation’s birthday, July 4, 2010, at 5 p.m. the Stafford Centre will be hosting a free family concert by the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra - “Freedom Rings 2010”. The concert is sponsored by the City of Stafford and the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with Impact a Hero, a non-profit veteran’s support organization.

Impact a Hero is a vital organization with a simple mission, to emotionally and financially assist our wounded and disabled veterans. This assistance encompasses everything from counseling to refitting homes and cars for wheelchairs, and is a great program to both honor and help our veterans.

The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1992, and is a full-size orchestra, complete with brass, woodwind, percussion, and string. Crawfish Boil to Benefit Autism Charity in Rosenberg

On Saturday, June 5, from 4pm-8pm the Texana Center in Rosenberg will host the Texana Trumps Autism Crawfish Boil, held at the Texana Center and sponsored by local dealership Legacy Ford Lincoln Mercury.

Autism is better known as a childhood disease than ever, with a diagnosis of autism occurring in 1 out of every 100 children, and 1 out of every 58 boys. Autism manifests itself in various ways and to differing degrees in these children, often changing as the child gets older. It’s a great charity to aid the Autistic children of Fort Bend and its surrounding areas, so come enjoy some great crawfish for a good cause!

Tickets for the boil are $20 for one or $30 for a pair, and children 13 and under eat for $5. All proceeds go to support Texana’s renowned Autism Program for Children, and the Texana Center is located at 4910 Airport Avenue, Bldg A, Rosenberg, TX 77471.

Visit River Park West – EGGcellent Easter Egg Hunt

River Park West residents are invited to bring their families for a fun filled day at the City’s annual EGGcellent Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt is to be held on Saturday, April 4, just minutes from their neighborhood at the Seabourne Creek Park.

The “Bring Your Own Basket” Easter egg hunt for kids ages 4 to 12 will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the arrival of the Easter Bunny. Participants will be divided into three groups: ages 4 and under; 5-8 years of age; and ages 9-12. Best of all, there is no charge for the kids to participate.

The Easter Bunny will be available for photos throughout the morning’s festivities and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to catch the memorable moments sure to be had by all. Light snacks and refreshments will be served at the R. W. Lindsey Gazebo immediately following the EGGcellent hunts.

West Houston "MUTT"ster Dog Walk: April 17

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch will be hosting the 5th Annual West"MUTT"ster Dog Walk to benefit Special Pals on Saturday, April 17th. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the actual walk will take place at 10 a.m.

This particular event will benefit homeless animals at the shelter in need of medical attention. Lakemont residents won’t want to miss the 18th Annual Boot Scootin’ Ball this weekend!

Saturday February 6, 2010 the Lamar/Needville Metro Go Texan subcommittee will host its 18th Annual Boot Scootin’ Ball. This event will raise money which will benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which provides scholarships to Lamar Consolidated & Needville ISD students. Last year the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded $120,000 in scholarships to local students and this event ultimately serves to help area students.

Boot scoot on down to the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds (Bldg C), at 4310 Hwy. 36 South in Rosenberg, TX. Doors open at 6:30pm and the festivities last until midnight. You’ll enjoy a chicken fried steak dinner and refreshments all for $30 a person. There will also be live and silent auctions for attendees to participate in, and of course there will be dancing.

Museum Opening in Sugar Land This Saturday

Things are busy for Fort Bend this weekend. Not only is the Fort Bend County Fair under way, but the grand opening for the Houston Museum of Natural Science also makes its way in Sugar Land.

The museum certainly has its own reputation, too, as its campus was named the seventh most visited museum in the nation according to Forbes Magazine. Now it brings its first class exhibits to Sugar Land, Texas.

As a result of a partnership between the museum, the city of Sugar Land and Newland Communities renovations and improvements have been made to the site and the museum agreed to operate the facility for at least 50 years.

Four galleries on display cover required science topics including Hall of Earth Science; Hall of Space Science; Science on A Sphere and Hall of Life Science. Different exhibits include The Chronicles of Narnia exhibit, a planetarium, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and more.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday September 30th, and the museum will open its doors this Saturday, October 3rd. The museum hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Visit their official site at www.hmns.org for more information.

Fort Bend County Fair Coming Soon

The Fort Bend County Fair will be under way on September 25th through October 3rd. There will be a host of events and activities throughout the fair, including a Gulf Coast Barrel Race, art competition, parade, turkey judging, carnival, Fort Bend County Reunion Youth Rodeo, Sugarland Express Singers, Ronald McDonald Show, Auction Buyers' Reception, BBQ contest, and more.

Live entertainment will be there as well with acts such as the 359 Band, Jack Ingram, Johnny Cooper, the Texas Unlimited Band, Crossroads, Casey Donahew and more.

If you want to be a part of the fun, you can register to participate in the Fort Bend County Fair Parade. Make haste, though, as you must register by September 18th. You may register at the Fair Office at 310 State Highway 36 South in Rosenberg or entry forms are also available at the official site, www.fbcfa.org. The forms may be faxed at their office at 281-342-0808, but you are advised to call the Fair Office at 281-342-6171 to ensure the fax was received. Registration for the parade, which takes place September 25th, is free.

Fort Bend CORPS Seeks Sponsors For Second Annual Gala

On February 5, 2010 Fort Bend CORPS will hold its Second Annual
Hearts and Hammers Gala at Safari Texas Ranch, raising funds for
the organization. The Fort Bend CORPS is a 501 c (3) non-profit
corporation that was established in 1999. The organization
completed home repairs on over 400 homes within Fort Bend County,
all free of charge with no obligation. This is all made possible by
grants, donations, and by the work of hundreds of volunteers.

Half of the funds for the gala will go towards the capital
campaign, which supports a permanent Fort Bend CORPS office and
warehouse space. The other half goes to the Hearts and Hammers
Program, which restores the exteriors of homes within Fort Bend
County.

Founding members Bob and Carole Brown, Bill and Susan Jameson,
Herb and Emelia Appel, Barkley and Jill Peschel and David and
Sharon Sabom will all be co-chairs at this event, which is also the
10 year anniversary for Fort Bend CORPS.

Narnia Exhibit Coming To Sugar Land

Fans of fantasy, science, and adventure have a new attraction to visit in the Fort Bend area. The Houston Museum of Natural Science in Sugarland has just made tickets available for its exhibit, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition". The spectacle will open on October 3rd and run through January 18th.

Presented by Walt Disney, the exhibit is based off of the blockbuster movies and books by C.S. Lewis and will be a 10,000 square foot entertainment and educational experience that transports visitors to the world of Narnia. Authentic props, costumes and set decorations from the Narnia films will provide museum goers with unparallelled immersion in an attempt to combine science with the fantasy world of Narnia.

President of Branded Entertainment at Exhibitgroup/Giltspur, Eddie Newquist said "This exhibition is a truly captivating and entertaining experience for all ages. From the scene displays and props seen in the Narnia films, to the scientific and educational aspects of the exhibition that stimulate the senses and the mind, guests will be transported into another world to experience Narnia like never before."

A myriad of activities and displays will be present. To start, people who tour the exhibit will view artifacts in C.S. Lewis' study, and even make their way up to the attic and the famous wardrobe closet. Once they enter the closet they are taken to a snowy world, just as in Narnia's story. Visitors will be able to create their own creatures featured from the film adaptations in one area on the mythical creatures of Narnia by rotating stacked blocks with pieces of creatures on them. A replica of the White Witch's Throne will be on display where people can sit on the throne and feel like the witch herself. A science lesson discovers the possibility of an earth covered in ice for 100 years is also explored. Another fun 'edutainment' experience is in a section where guests can build their own arch, all the while learning about its architecture and design fundamentals.

This will be a great experience for families in the River Park West community. Fort Bend Hosts Master Naturalist Training

Want to learn more about your environment and the Texas landscape? Then the 2009 Fall Texas Master Naturalist Program, Coastal Prairie Chapter, is the perfect opportunity for you.

This program is a series of volunteer training courses that offer specific training in natural history, wildlife and the ecosystems of the area, including specialized study in birds, ecology, fish, mammals and soil science. “The goal is to help improve volunteers’ understanding of natural resources and related management activities, enabling them to earn Master Naturalist certification.” All volunteers perform these training duties in their own communities, “providing natural resource education and participating in community service and outreach projects.”

The Texas Master Naturalist Program is sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and AgriLife Extension. Classes will be held on eight consecutive Thursdays beginning September 10th from 9am to 3:30pm. The group will meet at various locations throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties.
