Sugar Plum Market Comes to Sugar Land

The Fort Bend Junior Service League presents the Sugar Plum Market, presented by Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, November 3 through 5 at the Stafford Center.

The Sugar Plum Market is a shop-till-you-drop extravaganza to prepare for the holiday season. Proceeds go to benefit local Fort Bend and Sugar Land area charities.


Sugar Land to host MS Walk

Join the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as they host Walk MS: Sugar Land, Presented by KBR on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Sugar Land Memorial Park.

More than 500 Sugar Land residents are expected to join together to raise funds and awareness for MS research. Participants chose from either a one-mine or a 5K course.


Ghosts, goblins, witches and all the amazing creatures that emerge on Halloween are invited along with their parents to join in the festivities on October 30th from 4 to 8 pm. Children and little monsters alike are invited to trick or treat in the local shops until 6pm during the event.

The event will be fearfully fun with a haunted horse and buggy ride, extreme face painting, wax hand making and tons of other fright filled surprises. New activities this year include the munchkin pumpkin patch, a spooktacular haunted house, and a crafts area courtesy of local organizations.


The grand-opening ceremony of Fort Bend County Libraries’ University Branch Library will take place on Thursday, November 10, beginning at 6:00 pm, at the new library, located at 14010 University Blvd. in Sugar Land. The library is a joint project between Fort Bend County, the University of Houston System at Sugar Land, and Wharton County Junior College.

The grand opening will be officiated by Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert, who will be joined by other county, university, and local officials. All area residents are invited to come out and take part in the grand-opening reception.

The University Branch is the second joint-use facility in the Fort Bend County library system. Designed by Bailey Architects of Houston, the 2-story building is 40,193 square feet in size. E.E. Reed Construction, L.P. of Sugar Land is the general contractor.

The library is part of a $130-million bond referendum approved by voters in May 2006, which included $24.5 million for three county library projects: the University Branch Library in partnership with the University of Houston campus in Sugar Land and Wharton County Junior College; the Sienna Branch Library in partnership with Houston Community College; and renovations at George Memorial Library in Richmond.

Kitchen - Purchase in bulk, according to Martha Stewart “bulk items reduce waste up to 90 percent by volume and 75 percent by weight over single-serving portions. 


Celebrating the success of Houston’s Restaurant week, Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Sugar Land was able to contribute $7,535 to the Houston Food Bank. Approximately 10,000 from all across Houston joined Perry’s Restaurants in compiling a record breaking donation of $48,555.

Houston Restaurant Week was established in 2003 by Cleverley Stone, who plans the event so that 100% of all donations go to the Houston Food Bank. It’s dining to make a difference. Lunches are $20 and dinners are $35. Houston Restaurant week takes place each August and news for the annual event can be found on their facebook, twitter, and website.


Shape Up Sugar Land is working in conjunction with the Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department to present a unique program that incorporates health and fitness with intellectual activities. “walk the Art Park Fitness Challenge & Scavenger Hunt” will be held at Oyster Creek Park, 4033 Highway 6 South through the end of October.

The event will highlight the Bernar Venet Sculpture Garden as a promotion of the fine arts in the community. To participate download the scavenger hunt questionnaire and begin the hunt at at Oyster Creek Park. Participants must submit their answers by October 31st to qualify for the myriad of prizes that will be awarded. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to experience art in a fun and interactive format,” said Leon Kaplan, administrative manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.
