LCHS Student Earns Gold at Art Competition

Stephanie Richerson, a Lamar Consolidated High senior, is a uniquely talented - and now state recognized - artist. This year, at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Richerson’s aboriginal artwork earned her a coveted gold medal.

Over 24,000 students competed in 25 regions across the state with only 1,195 pieces making it to the state competition. The competition included a variety of artwork including oil and water paintings, sculptures, photographs and mixed media pieces.


Fort Bend County's George Memorial Library invites you to begin your genealogy research at their Local History and Genealogy Department this summer.

Library staff will present “Build Your Family Tree Online,” on Tuesday, May 24, beginning at 10:00 am, in the Computer Lab. In the workshop you will learn the basic skills necessary to begin researching your family history and create a family tree website.

Attendees will be taught to utilize the free resource website TribalPages.com to add names, upload photographs, create an interactive chart, capture family stories, and invite other family members to add additional information.


Paradise on the Plaza at Sugar Land Town Square

Paradise on the Plaza will be hosted by Sugar Land Towne Square on Friday, May 20, 2011. The fun family event will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and is open to the public for free!

Paradise on the Plaza is an island-themed party that will features refreshments, entertainment and activities for all age groups. In addition, live music will be performed by Scott Kirby, an artist whose style is reminiscent of the famous sun-kissed musician, Jimmy Buffett.

Guests can sit back and relax while enjoying the tropical thatched huts, palm trees and other beach vibes or they can compete in island games such as flipper races to win exciting prizes.


A reception was recently held in honor of National Crime Victims' Rights Week by the Fort Bend County Crime Victims Response Team.

Attendees were welcomed by the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office at the event and two guest speakers, as well as survivors who were once victimized by violent crimes, spoke out about the realities victims face and their post-trauma experiences.

“These survivors’ life stories encourage all of us to be vigorous in the work we do to identify the criminals who commit violence and to hold them accountable,” said Fort Bend County District Attorney John Healy.
